According to a Q2 2026 rental market analysis by RentCafe.com, Vancouver has dropped five positions to rank 13th nationally in rental interest, marking the first time the city has fallen outside the top 10 since the tracking began. The report, which analyzed data across 25 Canadian cities, reveals a dramatic shift in renter behavior: page views for Vancouver listings plummeted 60 per cent quarter-over-quarter, while saved searches fell 52 per cent and favourite listings dropped 51 per cent. Simultaneously, rental availability in the city contracted by 23 per cent, creating a tightening supply environment despite cooling demand indicators. This unprecedented exodus from Canada's largest urban centres signals a fundamental repositioning of rental market dynamics, with mid-sized cities now commanding the attention that major metros traditionally held.
